H&H Bagels, one of the most recognized names in the bagel industry in New York, is undergoing massive expansion plans. Just a few weeks after announcing the opening of five locations in Miami, Crain's reports that the company will debut a Chicago brick-and-mortar this summer at 164 N. Peoria Street in Fulton Market.

According to the outlet, the new 1,653-square-foot space at the base of The Row Fulton Market will be ready by May or June.

The business—originally established in Midtown Manhattan by Helmer Toro and his brother-in-law Hector Hernandez ("H & H") back in 1972—launched its first-ever branch outside of New York this past fall, in Boca Raton, followed by addresses in Miami and Santa Monica.

The shop also announced that it will soon expand into Raleigh-Durham, San Diego and Orange County as well, in addition to previously-confirmed openings in Connecticut, California, Tennessee, Massachusetts, Texas, Virginia and Washington, D.C. H&H Bagels has officially gone national.

Interestingly enough, according to Crain's, H&H Bagels will face some competition in Chicago as Tilly Bagel Shop, "purveyor of the self-described 'Chicago-style' bagel" and one of the city's best bagel shops, plans to open a second location right by the New York import this April.

You will, of course, find us taste-testing all the available bagels in the area as soon as the stores open.
