1. The powerful writer-performer Dael Orlandersmith’s latest show, Until the Flood, is an interview-based piece about the events in Ferguson, Missouri following the shooting of Michael Brown. Orlandersmith just arrived at the Goodman Theatre for a limited run as she tours the piece around the country. Tonight’s performance is at 7:30pm and tickets are $10–$29.
2. The long-running “live magazine” The Paper Machete now has a midweek “cocktail hour” edition on top of the regular Saturday shows. Stop by the Green Mill at 6:30pm on Wednesdays for a stiff drink and smart takes on the week’s news; there’s no cover charge.
3. Chicago-based mentalist Mark Toland claims to be the most-booked mind reader in the U.S. and Canada, keeping busy on the fringe-festival and college circuits. He blends psychic feats with accomplished storytelling in his new weekly solo show at the Greenhouse Theater Center. Performances are Wednesdays at 8pm and tickets are $25.
