It is, truly, the end of an era: Iconic performing arts troupe Blue Man Group's January 5, 2025 show at Briar Street Theatre will be its last one in Chicago.
According to the Associated Press, Blue Man Group Managing Director Jack Kenn has confirmed the date of the final show. Interestingly enough, though, tickets are currently on sale via the website right here for dates after January 5, 2025—so take this announcement with a grain of skepticism.
As fans of the production know well, the group—famously made up of people painted blue—was founded back in the 1980s by Chris Wink, Matt Goldman and Phil Stanton, three friends in New York.
Since then, the success of the troupe has led it to steady runs across a variety of other American cities, from Boston to Las Vegas and Chicago, of course, in addition to international shows all over the globe.
The first Blue Man Group performance in Chicago happened in 1997 and audience members have been flocking to catch the shows here ever since—despite the fact that one of the most famous portions of the performance involves splattering attendees with paint. Talk about creativity.
For those who have never seen a Blue Man Group show, here's a little about it: All on-stage performers, collectively known as Blue Men, have their skin painted blue and are completely mute during the productions. They also always appear on stage in groups of three, no matter what type of "theme" their performance falls under.
Given the group's fan base, we suspect many will be saddened by the announcement and decide to grab a ticket to one of the last performances scheduled in Chicago (supposedly) ... so you're going to want to make it to a show ASAP.
