If you've lived in Chicago long enough, you're probably accustomed to Garrett Popcorn's annual birthday festivities, which mark the company's anniversary with a month of sales on its signature mix of caramel and cheese popcorn (they called it Garrett Mix, but it's colloquially known as "Chicago Mix"). The Chicago-based chain opened its first shop 70 years ago at 10 West Madison Street, and has been doling out bags and tins of its salty snacks ever since.

You can get a taste of Garrett's most famous offering for just 70 cents through Friday, September 13—just stop by any Garrett Popcorn Shop between 11am and 1pm to purchase a special anniversary bag. If you need even more Garrett Mix, shops will be offering Classic (one gallon) tins for $19.49 from September 16 through 22.

If you prefer free popcorn, you'll need to wait until Wednesday, September 18, when Garrett throws a 70th birthday party at Pioneer Court (401 N Michigan Ave) from 11am to 2pm. Attendees will be able to enjoy complimentary bags of Garrett Mix, free Garrett swag, yard games, dancing and other fun activities. There's nothing wrong with filling up on popcorn during your lunch break, right?
