The beloved family-run Marie's Pizza and Liquors seems to have officially closed: The property at 4125-4129 W. Lawrence Avenue is now listed for sale.

Chicagoans bemoaned a temporary shutdown of the pizzeria and liquor store, considered by many to be one of the best in town, back in 2023. As reported by Block Club Chicago, the owners decided to close up shop for a little while because of a sick family member. At the end of 2024,, the destination was adorned with a new Georgia O'Keeffe mural that led many to believe in an imminent re-opening—which is clearly no longer the case.

"Though it hasn’t been open, everyone knows about Marie’s," said Amie Zander, the executive director of the Pulaski Elston Business Association, in an official statement to Block Club Chicago. "It’s sad for the neighborhood, and we don’t really have any pizza anymore."

As fans of Marie's Pizza & Liquors know well, the eatery debuted back in 1940 and quickly made rounds for serving non-deep-dish pizza. Dubbed "tavern-style" by many, the cracker-thin crust is famously cut into squares and—let's be honest—is arguably just as popular among locals as its cheesier sibling.

We've been missing every single menu item served at Marie's for quite some time but, now, it's officially time to mourn the culinary loss.
