If you're anything like us, you were introduced to Japanese anime through the adorable character designs and weighty themes of director Hayao Miyazaki's animated films. Often referred to as the Walt Disney of Japan, Miyazaki's production company Studio Ghibli is responsible for some of the most iconic Japanese animated movies, including My Neighbor Totoro and Princess Mononoke.
To cap off the year (and kick off 2018), the Music Box Theatre will pay tribute to Miyazaki's work by screening seven classic Studio Ghibli films from December 26 through January 4, all presented in 35mm. The series will include multiple screenings of Castle in the Sky, Kiki's Delivery Service, My Neighbor Totoro, Ponyo, Porco Rosso, Princess Mononoke and Spirited Away—all written and directed by Miyazaki.
Tickets to individual screenings are just $11, but if you can't get enough of Miyazaki's furry wood spirits and warrior princesses, you can purchase a pass to the entire screening series for $35. Take a look at the Music Box Theatre website for the complete screening schedule.
