Back in January, Black People Eats founder Jeremy Joyce dreamed up an outdoor food festival that would be hosted on Juneteenth, which falls on June 19 and commemorates the end of slavery on the same day in 1865. Even though he won't be able to gather Chicagoans in one place this year, Joyce is still moving forward with his plan to bring people together over amazing food from Black-owned restaurants.
Kicking off on Friday, the first-ever Juneteenth Restaurant Celebration offers an all-star lineup of more than 70 Black-owned restaurants offering discounted dining deals for $6.19. You can find a complete list of deals through organizer Black People Eats, who has also mapped out participating restaurants to make it even easier to support Black-owned restaurants taking part in the celebration. Chicagoans can indulge in flag cake from Brown Sugar Bakery, catfish po' boys from Soulé, rib tips from Honey 1 BBQ, martinis from Frontier, bread pudding from Norman's Bistro and so much more. Some of the discounts are available only on Friday, but most will last through Sunday, June 21.
"We hope that you use this list to eat good, create memories, and support Black-owned restaurants," Joyce wrote in an Instagram post announcing the lineup. Take a look at the full list of participants and their featured menu items below, and while you're at it, give Joyce and his team at Black People Eats a follow to continue discovering and supporting Black-owned restaurants throughout Chicago.
