Kanye West’s #WyominginChicago event went down on a farm in suburban Maple Park

He may have spent some of his formative years here, but Kanye West doesn't seem to know where Chicago is.

When West announced the mysterious #wyominginchicago event via Twitter yesterday, most people assumed that it might actually take place somewhere within city limits. Instead, anyone who managed to score tickets to the event later learned that the gathering would take place at Kuipers Family Farm, a suburban pumpkin patch and apple orchard located about 60 miles west of downtown Chicago. It's not the first time West has announced a Chicago event only to hold it in the ‘burbs—in 2016, his The Life of Pablo pop-up shop slung expensive T-shirts from the Northbrook Court shopping mall on the North Shore.

While VIP guests were able to catch shuttles to the event from from the West Loop, most attendees had to make the trip out to the farm by car and park in a field. The event provided a code for 25 percent off Lyft rides, but fares reportedly topped $100. When they arrived at Kuipers Family Farm, attendees were greeted by a cash bar, a selection of lawn games, s'mores, a bonfire and multiple stacks of speakers blaring music from a DJ. In one of the barns, guests could fork over $60 for one of two exclusive long-sleeve T-shirts emblazoned with imagery from West's latest album, Ye.

Later in the evening, the #wyominginchicago became a recreation of the live-streamed album listening party that West hosted on a ranch in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, last week, as DJs spun Ye in its entirety while attendees gathered around the bonfire to dance and snap photos. Wyoming's Diamond Cross Ranch banned rappers in the wake of West's loud, late-night party, but the Kuipers Family Farm celebration, which lasted until about 11pm, didn't seem to be quite as disruptive.

One attendee, 24-year-old Oswego resident Shaun (who goes by @shauntheyawn on Twitter), didn't have a ticket to the event but made the drive to Kuipers anyway—when he arrived, he was able to simply walk in and enjoy the festivities. “I’m happy I made the trip; it's literally in my backyard,” Shaun told us. “If Kanye [had shown] up and I didn’t go, especially with it being so close, I wouldn’t have been able to live with myself.”

If you didn't snag tickets to the #wyominginchicago party or simply couldn't figure out a way to get out to the ‘burbs to attend, check out some photos and Twitter reactions to the festivities. Next time West decides to throw a celebration in Chicago, here's hoping that he takes a look at a map.
