Kanye West is coming home again, according to a post on his Instagram account. The hip-hop superstar who once claimed that he was moving back to Chicago and "never leaving again" announced via Instagram that he'll host a listening event for his forthcoming album Donda at Soldier Field on August 26. Named for his late mother Donda West, the album still doesn't have a release date, but that hasn't stopped West from playing it for giant crowds at ticketed events.
West has previously hosted two Donda listening events at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, the most recent of which was streamed live via Apple Music. While the first event found West walking (and sometimes dancing) across a gigantic white tarp, the second event was a much more elaborate production, complete with dancers, dramatic lighting and a moment during which West ascended hundreds of feet into air with the help of a wire.
It's unclear what exactly West has in store for the Chicago Donda listening event—we only know that it will take place on August 26 at 9pm and that tickets go on sale via Ticketmaster on Friday, August 20 at noon. Pricing for the listing event hasn't been announced, but ticket prices for the two Donda events ranged from $25 to $70 before fees. Just be aware that you may pay a huge premium for hot dogs, cookies and chicken tenders once you're inside the stadium.
While West has consistently delayed the release of Donda, missing multiple proposed release dates, attendees at the Soldier Field event will theoretically get to hear the latest version of the album, which features collaborations with Travis Scott, the Weeknd, Kid Cudi, Playboi Carti and Roddy Ricch. Given West's penchant for continually tweaking his music, it's also possible that attendees at the Chicago event will hear some entirely new tracks.
Will West's estranged ex-wife Kim Kardashian show up with the former couple's children North, Saint, Psalm and Chicago in tow? Will West decide to live inside of Soldier Field and complete his latest record in the city where he got his start? Will West stumble into a Chicago Fire FC match in-costume in the coming weeks? Only time will tell.
