Although fall doesn't officially start for another few weeks, Chicagoans are getting a taste of the season today—and it's only about to get chillier.

To add to the effect, temperatures are going to drop Friday night to, possibly, the mid-50s... and continue on a downward trajectory through Saturday morning when, according to NBC 5 Chicago, readings may touch on the 40s.

"Early Sunday morning, areas to the west could see temperatures in the low 30s," reports the website. "Closer to the lake, more 40 degree temperatures were expected."

The good news: by Sunday afternoon, things will warm up, with temperatures expected to reach the mid-70s and continuing to climb through the end of next week.

Clearly, fall is pushing through but summer is still holding on, which means you get to have the best of both worlds for the next couple of weeks.

Now's probably a good time to bookmark our guide to the best things to do in Chicago in the fall and this map, showing when fall foliage will peak in the area.
