Last year Chance the Rapper teamed up with R&B singer Jeremih to release the festive surprise mixtape Merry Christmas Lil’ Mama, a collection of nine songs that included a Chicago-themed rendition of “Carol of the Bells” and a sexy ballad about getting snowed in. It didn’t quite match the grandeur of Chance’s Coloring Book, but it was far more heartfelt than the sea of phoned-in Christmas albums that are usually released each December.
This year, Chance and Jeremih have expanded on their original offering, releasing a new version of the mixtape (Merry Christmas Lil’ Mama: Re-Wrapped) that includes 10 additional tracks and a remastered version of last year’s tape. According to Chance’s Instagram, the new songs feature drums from Master of None’s Lena Waithe and Common. There are songs about reuniting with family from out of town, a trap ode to Christmas snow and plenty of references to Chance’s adorable daughter Kensli.
An unedited version of Merry Christmas Lil’ Mama: Re-Wrapped is streaming via SoundCloud and can currently be downloaded through Chance’s website (though this link will probably only be active for a limited time). Your tired old holiday playlist could use a bit of Chicago spirit, so hurry up and download it!
