Even though many Chicago holiday traditions aren't happening this year, you'll find that there are still some silver linings to celebrating the season social distance-style. One example: Drive-in events, which allow you to stay warm and cozy even as the temperature dips. Starting Friday, November 27, you can experience Christmas movies, sparkling decor and more from your car at the Holly Jolly Drive-in and Miracle on West Madison, two new drive-in movie events in Chicago.
Hosted by Replay Chicago (the arcade bar that also brought Halloween drive-through events to the city), the drive-ins—which are located in Lincoln Park and the West Loop, respectively—feature a 1.5-hour experience complete with a movie screening and appearances from Santa, Mrs. Claus, elves, the Grinch and other holiday characters. Visitors will pull up in their cars to a lot festooned in cheerful decorations; once they're settled in, they'll be treated to an hourlong holiday movie (specific movie titles yet to be announced, though expect something family-friendly) as Santa and his Christmas gang roam the premises with good cheer. On select nights, you may even catch a glimpse of live reindeer.
Both pop-ups run through Christmas Eve, so there's plenty of time to get in on the festive action. Tickets for the drive-in movie night are $75 per car—feel free to bring the whole family and a thermos of hot cocoa.
