It felt like the entire city of Chicago (nay, the world) was holding its breath for the past four days. When many major news outlets called Pennsylvania for Joe Biden and Kamala Harris this morning, giving the pair more than enough projected electoral college votes to take the White House, many Chicagoans erupted in celebration.

As the news spread, car horns honked, masked revelers took to the streets, and applause could be heard from balconies throughout the city. Unsurprisingly, Biden won the popular vote in Chicago, with just one ward leaning in favor of President Donald Trump.

Take a look at some of the celebrations happening throughout the city today—from Lakeview and downtown to outside of Trump Tower. And remember: If you're hitting the streets today, please wear a mask and keep your distance from other Chicagoans.
