You can smell the cold in the air: Meteorologists are warning us that fast-moving snow squalls will hit the Chicago area this afternoon and, although we shouldn't expect much in the form of accumulation, the temperature is expected to drop by tonight ... dipping into the single digits by Thursday morning.
It's not just the frigid temperatures that are going to be a nuisance, though—wind gusts of over 30 miles per hour will make it feel like it's even colder out there, perhaps five to 20 degrees below zero. How fun, right?
By Friday afternoon, the situation will be slightly more tolerable. According to NBC5 Chicago, the temperatures will rebound back into the low-to-mid 30s with sunny skies.
But don't get too comfortable; the outlet reports that "another storm system is expected to enter the Midwest on Saturday and linger into the early hours of Sunday morning." At the moment, this weekend's precipitation will likely be rain so, at the very least, we won't have to deal with even more snow.
Although the weather pattern certainly doesn't surprise us (we live in Chicago after all!), there is something about the effects of the cold on our bodies that just shocks us every year. Despite it all, we're here for yet another winter and, to be honest, we wouldn't have it any other way.
