Snow is inevitable in Chicago. But when, exactly, white powder will descend upon us for the first time in the season is always a matter of debate.
According to meteorologists, Chicagoans may actually see flurries as early as this Thursday—albeit mixed with some rain.
Let's start with Tuesday, which is predicted to look a lot like today: Highs in the mid-60s and mild temperatures overall. Enjoy it because, on Wednesday, it's going to get colder.
"Colder, more seasonable weather will arrive mid-week with [...] shower chances," writes the U.S. National Weather Service Chicago Illinois on Facebook. "We may see rain mix with or change to a period of snow Wednesday night into Thursday morning."
Temperature-wise, expect the highs to drop into the 40s on Wednesday and Thursday, with lows reaching the 30s.
It clearly won't be the all-encompassing, Christmas-like white snow storm that we all enjoy once in a while (just at the beginning of winter, of course), but it's still something, right?
Just in case you were wondering, according to the National Weather Service, the "normal first date" to see snow in the area is October 31—so we're already a couple of weeks behind schedule. That being said, the latest first sign of this sort of precipitation, historically, happened on December 5, 1999.
Whatever the case may be, we will be ready for Chicago's weather patterns to take over our lives throughout the next few months. Happy (almost) winter, folks!
