It can be expensive living in a major city like Chicago. Luckily, though, it looks like a surprising number of Chicagoans just happen to be millionaires and billionaires, at least according to the recently dropped World's Wealthiest Cities Report.

To catch you up: the global ranking is "the definitive guide to city wealth," published annually by Henley & Partners in partnership with wealth intelligence firm New World Wealth. The report identifies exactly where all of those mythical millionaires and billionaires apparently live throughout the globe and provides a comprehensive review of the 50 wealthiest cities in the world, with "expert insights on economic mobility, prime property, the investment migration sector and wealth management."

It's not surprising that the world's most famous cities are hubs for the super-rich, nor that four American metropolises cracked the top ten this year—including Chicago.

The Windy City blew in at number ten on the 2025 round-up, after fellow U.S. entries like New York City—which came in as the number one wealthiest city in the world, home to 384,500 high-net-worth individuals, including 66 billionaires—"The Bay Area" a.k.a. San Francisco and Silicon Valley, and Los Angeles.

It's a big boost for the Second City from last year's ranking—now with 127,100 millionaires to its name, Chicago hopped over both Beijing (which has dropped two places since last year, from 10th to 12th, now with 114,300 millionaires) and Shanghai (down three places from 11th to 14th with 110,500 millionaires) to claim a place in the top 10 for the first time. Are we proud? We're honestly not sure.

Rounding out the top ten were global hotspots Tokyo, Japan; Singapore; London, England; Paris, France; Hong Kong; and Sydney, Australia.
