Craving something green to keep you company indoors or some colorful blooms to brighten up your flowerbeds? Garden centers and nurseries throughout the state have been able to reopen under the latest "stay-at-home" order, allowing gardeners and anyone seeking some foliage for their living room to get their hands on a variety of plants and flowers.
The shift in regulations has also allowed local event décor company Kehoe Designs to open pop-up garden shops throughout the city, taking over outdoor spaces that are currently unoccupied. Dubbed Green Market Garden, the temporary shops bring a selection of indoor and outdoor trees, plants and flowers to restaurant patios throughout the month of May. Guests are welcome to stop by and browse the selection, but they need to wear a face covering and make sure to stay six feet away from other customers at all times.
The Green Market Garden pop-ups take place in multiple locations throughout the city every day that weather permits (the shops typically don't open up if there's rain in the forecast). Patios at spots like Federales in the West Loop and Smoke Daddy BBQ in Wicker Park have previously hosted Green Market Garden pop-ups—you'll find an up-to-date list of the current locations on the Green Market Garden Instagram account. If you're looking for something specific, you can simply DM the account with any questions you have.
Offering a selection of plants that includes cacti, succulents, hibiscus and cat palms, Green Market Garden pop-ups are open every weekday from noon to 6pm and weekends from 10am to 6pm through the end of May.
