Unless you've been living in an extremely fortified basement, you probably noticed that we had a bit of a storm roll in last night. The derecho—an unusual weather event that involves a fast, intense line of wind and storms—ripped through Chicago with wind speeds up to 80 miles per hour, spurring power outages, uprooting trees and wreaking general havoc on the city. Reports from the National Weather Service even indicate that a tornado briefly touched down on Rogers Park before moving over the lake, something that hasn't happened since the mid-2000s.
Take a look at these photos to see the storm in action and its aftermath. If you're one of the many people without power or cleaning up wreckage today, we wish you the best of luck.
