Following a temporary closure this past summer in June, Old Town sports bar Benchmark—yes, the one with the double decker layout and tons of TV screens—will officially reopen tomorrow, offering a slightly more elevated experience to patrons.
The space has, in fact, been revamped by designer Linda Chris Daniels of LCD Designs, and it now “artfully combines a refined aesthetic with an industrial edge,” according to an official press release.
“We sought to refresh and slightly elevate the space while making the design feel more cohesive,” said Matt Doherty, Managing Director of Four Corners Restaurant Group, the company behind the concept. “Our goal is to provide a venue that feels both sophisticated and inviting, a place where people can enjoy great food in a great environment.”
In addition to the updated surroundings, the restaurant is now also offering a revamped menu concocted by chef Jimmy Papadopoulos, the former culinary maestro of Bellemore and Bohemian House.
Standout items include a Maine lobster roll prepared with butter, lemon and chives; pimento poppers served with pickled pepper jelly, horseradish and comeback sauce; and a broccoli salad that also features avocado, seeds and nuts, aged cheddar and green goddess dressing. It's clear the team is trying to up the ante when it comes to the restaurant's gastronomic offerings.
“Our goal is to get back to being a bar with really good food, doing the unexpected in how it relates to people's perception of bar food,” explained Doherty. “We think the results of our team collaborating with Chef Jimmy will surprise our guests with creative and delicious dishes that go beyond the typical bar fare.”
With plenty of changes ready to be unveiled, Benchmark is positioning itself to be the go-to neighborhood bar for large gatherings—boasting top-notch food and drinks. Cheers to its return!
