Given the fact that it's winter in Chicago, is news regarding frigid temperatures really news at all?
For what it's worth, a polar vortex—a large region of low pressure and cold air—is set to move towards the Chicago region and bring along with it some of the "coldest periods of weather on record," reports CBS News.
According to the outlet, the low temperatures may also bring a bit of snow as early as this afternoon. "The snow is expected to favor areas south of I-80, with a dusting up to 2" being possible for the higher end," reports the outlet. "Roads will be wet and slick starting Thursday evening, so make sure to plan accordingly."
Flurries may also descend upon the city Sunday night into Monday, so you might want to prepare yourself for an annoying commute into work during the start of the first full week of 2025.
Alas, we're in Chicago, where snow is de rigueur, so what are we even panicking about?
We suggest you use this time to organize a nice outing that actually takes advantage of the weather. From the best sledding hills in Chicago to the top snowboarding and skiing resorts near town, there are plenty of fun stuff to do in the region when it snows. Why not try them all?
