Earlier today, Mayor Lori Lightfoot announced the closure of five additional Chicago streets to make way for outdoor dining, effective this weekend. The five new stretches of roadway, which span from Edison Park to Grand Crossing, join the six other Chicago roadways that Lightfoot opened for outdoor dining last month.

These closures offer restaurants and bars the option to spill seating into the street, unobstructed by traffic. Take a look at the streets that will join Chicago's outdoor dining program this weekend:

  • Balmoral Street in Andersonville: closed on both sides of North Clark
  • Chinatown Square: adjacent to Archer Avenue from Wentworth to Princeton
  • Taylor Street in Little Italy: closed from Loomis to Ashland
  • Oliphant Avenue in Edison Park: closed from Northwest Highway to the first alley to the North
  • 75th Street in Grand Crossing: sidewalk dining areas from Indiana to Calumet

The city also announced that it has approved permits for more than 30 parking lots to be converted to outdoor seating areas. Additionally, the cost of a sidewalk cafe permit has been slashed by 75 percent, and businesses that have already been granted permits will be refunded.

Stay tuned for additional information on dining allowances the city is making to ensure that businesses can reopen in a safe and timely manner this summer.
