Toro y Moi figurehead Chaz Bear (formerly Chaz Bundick) has been trafficking in mellow sounds since his 2010 debut, Causers of This, got lumped with the hazy sample-ridden albums that defined the chillwave movement. Since then, he's shown off his talents as a producer by exploring a variety of genres, ranging from dance music to psych-rock. The latest Toro y Moi album, Outer Peace, is a foray into dancefloor-friendly synth-pop that draws on contemporary R&B and classic ’70s funk. It's all overseen by lyrics that contemplate Bundick's relationship with technology (and a great throwaway line about meeting LCD Soundsystem frontman James Murphy at Coachella) and the near-constant distractions of modern life. At the Riviera Theatre, Toro y Moi is joined by L.A. hip-hop and house producer Channel Tres.
