The world is a much different and more tumultuous place than when the New Pornographers released its last album in 2017, but the Canadian outfit is still harnessing endearingly positive power-pop arrangements that stand firm in the face of adversity. The group's eighth album, In the Morse Code of Brake Lights, is packed with clever turns of phrase provided by principle songwriter and frontman A.C. Newman, in addition to the band's usual cocktail of soaring choruses, symphonic arrangements and impassioned dual vocals and harmonies (thanks to Neko Case). The songs contained on the record serve as a necessary reminder that there is still joy to be found, though the search may seem more daunting than ever before. Brooklyn indie-rocker Lady Lamb opens the show.
