One of the best rock bands New York ever produced, Television was the mid-’70s punk scene's most artistically ambitious combo. It eschewed the minimalism of the Ramones in favor of post-psychedelic experimentation, applying the spirit of jazz improvisation to the guitar-band format. More than 40 years after it was founded, the quartet reunites sporadically, now with Jimmy Rip replacing original guitarist Richard Lloyd. While Television released a couple of albums in the wake of its 1977 debut,Marquee Moon, the band usually sticks to the twisting melodies of its most beloved release.
