Born in the city that gave the world classic rock heavyweights like REO Speedwagon, Cheap Trick and Styx, local outfit Rookie sounds like its angling for an induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame 25 years from now. The group's self-titled debut is filled with harmonies and hooks that are indebted the records the members' parents probably spun, but the retro sound is more than a pastiche—these guys breathe a bit of new life into the dusty power chords and scortching solos of yesteryear. Rookie plays a pair of belated release shows for the band's 2020 debut, performing with Bur and Duke Davenport on November 26 and Brbra Buch and Tobacco City on November 27.
