Mineral was one of the torch-bearing bands of the second wave of emo. Following the template of Sunny Day Real Estate, the Texas act turned mathy post-rock into a sort of scrappy, shoegazery teenage soul music. The stuff ages surprisingly well, as the players tend to have developed considerable chops while being off in the real workaday world. Now all that ache is fueled by nostalgia rather than ennui. The reunion rolls into Chicago as part of Riot Fest. Into It Over It opens.
