Emotive melodies and deeply personal lyricism are trademarks of Mitski Miyawaki's music, but her new album, Be the Cowboy, adds some interesting new wrinkles to the singer-songwriter's output. This time around, you'll hear pianos and synthesizers wrapped around her gut-wrenching ballads, lending an upbeat (sometimes disco-influenced) tone to tracks that explore the frustrations of modern romance and the crushing weight of loneliness. Much like Mitski's previous work, it's irreverent in a way that makes sense, given the confusing nature of the themes she explores. New York electro-pop duo Overcoats opens the show.
