Lillie West celebrates the release of her latest album, I Want the Door to Open, at Thalia Hall, debuting a record that showcases some of Chicago's best musicians and a new musical direction for Lala Lala. Largely written before the pandemic, West's songs about personal representation and the struggle of existence take on new meaning in an age of social distancing and reacclimation to a forever-changed world. A departure from the sparse guitar arrangements that characterized her first two records, West's latest songs delve into new sonic territory (with the help of co-producer Yoni Wolf), packed with swelling synthesizers, layers of vocals and contributions from the likes of Sen Morimoto, NNAMDÏ and OHMME. Show up early to catch sets from indie rockers Divino Niño as well as poet and singer Kara Jackson.
