Despite the city’s longstanding Polish community, Chicagoans rarely get the opportunity to hear Polish-language opera productions. This November, Chicago Opera Theater is producing the company’s first Polish-language opera with the Chicago premiere of King Roger, an infrequently staged work by the Polish composer and librettist Karol Szymanowski. COT music director Lidiya Yankovskaya will conduct a 72-person orchestra alongside a 120-person chorus composed of singers from the Lira Ensemble, Apollo Chorus and the children’s choir Uniting Voice Chicago.
