Kendrick Lamar brought his Kunta's Groove Sessions tour to the Riviera Theatre on November 5, 2015.
Last night, Kendrick Lamar took the stage at the Riviera backed by a four-piece band and delivered a memorable performance to a crowd of 2,500 people. It might have seemed like déjà vu to some—the hip-hop superstar turned in a set at the United Center just a few weeks ago—but this sold-out gig was a bit more special.

Originally scheduled to take place at the smaller Concord Music Hall before moving to a larger venue, Lamar's appearance was a part of his Kunta's Groove Sessions tour, a string of intimate shows designed to showcase material from his recent LP, To Pimp A Butterfly. Blending live instrumentation with samples from the record, the emcee tore through key tracks such as "i" and "The Blacker the Berry" with assistance from a visibly elated crowd.
Before closing out the night, Lamar acknowledged that this tour might mark the last time he'll perform some of these songs. This fact wasn't lost on those lucky enough to snag highly sought-after tickets to the show—it only made the performance that much more unforgettable.
