Singer Jupiter Bokondji and his band Okwess fuse the rhythms of Congolese rumba with funk, rock and contemporary pop on the group's latest album, Kin Sonic. Calling himself the "rebel general," Bokondji's dance-friendly beats are a vessel for his protest music that speaks out against the legacy of opression and inequality in the Democratic Republic of the Congo while promoting justice and empathy. Psychedelic Mauritanian musician Noura Mint Seymali opens this free Millennium Park Summer Music Series concert.
