The National frontman Matt Berninger and Ramona Falls mastermind Brent Knopf have been friends for nearly a decade, but the pair have only recently started making music together. Assuming the moniker EL VY (pronounced: elle-vye), Knopf creates radiant, upbeat backing tracks while Berniger provides his gloomy baritone—it sounds a little like the National hopped up on antidepressants.
