Inspired by the timeless songs created by artists like Marvin Gaye and Curtis Mayfield, Durand Jones & the Indications are disciples of dusty ’70s soul records (the band's guitarist Blake Rhein does research for Chicago archival label the Numero Group in his spare time). The group's sophomore album, American Love Call, addresses tumultuous times with clear-eyed lyricism, sweeping string arrangements and the contrasting vocals of Jones and drummer Aaron Frazer. Before the Indications take the stage for a headlining set at Thalia Hall, local psych-rockers Divino Niño and R&B singer-songwriter Melvin Knight open the show.
