On her last album, Glad Rag Doll, a surprisingly edgy spin on her traditional singing-jazz-pianist métier, Krall enlisted Marc Ribot to provide characteristically dry, wiry guitar to a set of vintage vaudeville and jazz tunes from the ’20s and ’30s. Her newest, Wallflower, reinterprets '60s pop icons like McCartney, Eagles, Dylan, and the Mama and the Papas—y'know, the new new classic songbook. Krall's warm voice floats and flexes convincingly, and her bluesy touch at the keys has rarely held more mischievous swagger.
