Destroyer + Eleanor Friedberger

Stripping away some of the ’80s synths, reverberating snare hits and whining saxophones that characterized his past few album, singer-songwriter Dan Bejar gets darker and more direct on his latest record, Have We Met. Gloomy soft-rock arrangements are overseen by vocals that Bejar recorded late at night on a laptop microphone, opining about the difficulties of aging through a series of non sequiturs and odd turns of phrase. If you've been listening to Destroyer long enough, the unpredictable nature of Bejar's musical inclinations and sardonic retorts is actually what you've come to expect. Oak Park-native Eleanor Friedberger opens the evening with a set of disco-tinged indie-pop anthems.
