Portishead's Geoff Barrow, Robert Plant bassist Billy Fuller and electronic musician Will Young join forces as Beak>, exploring a blend of sounds and styles that play to the strengths of each member. The group's third album, >>>, flits from dissonant synth-pop ballads to motorik instrumental tracks that sound like John Carpenter tackling the score to Annihilation (a soundtrack that Barrow collaborated on with composer Ben Salisbury). There's an uneasy quality to the the music that Beak> creates, but the band's penchant for the unexpected makes its output all the more intriguing.
