Director Richard Jones takes George Frideric Handel's Baroque opera and transports it to Scotland in the 1970s, putting a contemporary spin on the medieval tale. The twisting plot follows betrothed couple Ginevra and Ariodante, who are suddenly pitted against one another by an outsider who threatens to ruin the pair's romance—and their upcoming wedding. At nearly four-hours long (with two intermissions), the Lyric Opera's production has plenty of time to immerse audiences in the dramatic story and Handel's majestic score.
