The spirit, energy and hair of the Mars Volta and At the Drive-In live on in Antemasque, the new project from longtime musical partners Omar Rodríguez-López and Cedric Bixler-Zavala. The duo's prog tendencies give way to a more concentrated punk blast, and at times classic rock and new-wave, in what is likely the most commercial music the two have made. Take this, for example: Cedric repeats, "Can you read my heart, can you read my lips?" in "Ride like the Devil's Son." That's a far cry from the sci-fi gobbledygook of "Only this manupod / Crescent in shape has escaped." So yeah, well played, guys.
