Though it's named for "Rip Van Winkle" author Washington Irving, this North Side neighborhood isn't exactly a sleepy part of the city. Once a railroad depot, Irving Park is still easy to reach by train (if you're taking the Blue Line) and boasts an array of dive bars and coffee shops that are worth searching out. If you're a fan of the great outdoors, you'll find plenty of parks where you can go for a bike ride or just enjoy some fresh air.
