On the day before Ukraine was invaded by Russia in February, the Kyiv City Ballet unwittingly took one of the final flights out of the city—to Paris, as part of a long-planned tour—and has not been able to return back to Ukraine due to the ongoing war. The company embarks on its first-ever tour of the United States this fall, including a two-night stint in Chicago at the Auditorium Theatre, where it will perform a mixed repertoire that includes the new work Tribute to Peace created by artistic director Ivan Kozlov and deputy director Ekaterina Kozlova.
