How satisfying is it that “Weird Al” Yankovic has become a comedy elder statesman? The parody and polka enthusiast started out four decades ago as a point of identification for nerds and outsiders, when teenage Al’s accordion-driven novelty songs and pop-music takeoffs broke through with radio legend Dr. Demento. Now “Weird Al” is the subject of admiring profiles and hangs out with Lin-Manuel Miranda and Jimmy Fallon. Hitting town on his self-proclaimed Ill-Advised Vanity Tour, Yankovic will pull out the deep cuts; both nights at the Vic are sold out, but keep an eye on the resale market. Elsewhere, The Second City e.t.c.’s 42nd revue, Gaslight District, officially opens, and SNL alumna Julia Sweeney takes the same stage to a swing at stand-up. Check out these and more of this month’s comedy best bets.
