Dust off those tiaras and polish those scepters...Music of the Baroque is going full crowns and gowns with The Coronation Mass. Mozart's Mass in C major, K317 is lousy with glorious pomp and effusive declarations and the ebullient piece anchors the program. With two Handel coronation anthems and Haydn's Symphony No. 85 in Bb major also on the bill, this is promising to be one of the more exultant programs at the Harris in 2014. The Haydn symphony was given the nickname "La Reine" because of Marie Antoinette's fondness for it. Why the nickname "La thump thump THUD" wasn't employed in referencing the queen remains a mystery.
