Just this August, Baltimore Symph conductor Marin Alsop became the first woman to lead Last Night of the Proms, the British classical institution. There are far too few female conductors in the classical world, and they do not get enough of the spotlight. So, when visiting Finn Susanna Mälkki take the baton and leads the CSO in Dubussy's classic ode to the sea, La mer, be there. She also offers up some Sibellius, naturally-his Suite No. 1 from The Tempest. Rounding out the intriquing bill are Thomas Adès's sparkling tone poem ...but all shall be well and Stravinsky's Violin Concerto, featuring the always jaw-dropping Leila Josefowicz.
