Two weeks ago, director Michael Bay confirmed that he'll be returning to direct Transformers 5, the latest installment in the multi-billion dollar film franchise about giant alien robots that transform into cars and blow up notable landmarks all around the world. In a recent interview with WGN Radio, Bay confirmed that he plans to film parts of the sequel in Chicago, where he has shot footage for previous Transformers films. When interviewer Dean Richards asked the director if he will be shooting on Michigan Avenue again, Bay replied, "No, we're gonna find a new street."
Filming for the climactic, Chicago-based battle scene in Transformers: Dark of the Moon famously took over large sections of Michigan Avenue, Wacker Drive and various locations throughout the city during the summer of 2010. Bay returned to Chicago in 2013, shooting scenes for Transformers: Age of Extinction at local landmarks such as the Willis Tower, Chicago City Hall and Cloud Gate in Millennium Park.
There's still no official word on when Bay and his crew will return to the city, but based on the sequel's scheduled release (and the availability to decent weather) any filming would likely need to take place this summer.
Transformers 5 will be released in 2017 and will star Mark Wahlberg in addition to a returning cast of CG robots (in disguise).
