1. Give the speech of a lifetime
Try out your public speaking skills with the help of some of the greatest iconic speeches ever penned like Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s “I Have a Dream,” Sojourner Truth’s “Ain’t I a Woman?” and Ronald Reagan’s “Tear Down this Wall!” Who knows, you might just get so inspired that your Thanksgiving toast will become a thing of legends. (Museum of Contemporary Art, 220 E Chicago Ave, 6pm. Free)
2. Be objective
Don't miss the last week of the “Secret Lives of Objects” at the Chicago History Museum. If a picture says a 1,000 words, you can only imagine what stories the lamp that started the Iroquois Theatre fire in 1903 might reveal. Explore various items pulled from the museum’s vaults, and remember, there’s more than meets the eye. (Chicago History Museum, 1601 N Clark St, 9:30am–4:30pm. $14)
3. You really oughtta see this
Montreal’s indie music scene is the gift that keeps on giving. Of the many beloved north-hailing bands, Ought manages to stand out. The group brings its punky indie rock and charismatic maniac frontman Tim Beeler to Beat Kitchen tonight. Even though we caught them at Pitchfork in June, it’s already been too long. Blizzard Babies and Split Feet open. (Beat Kitchen, 2100 W Belmont Ave, 6:30pm. $12)
