1. Chow down in Old Town

Get delicious deals on meals in Old Town all week long. Old Town Restaurant Week kicks off today, offering more than a dozen participating restaurants with special menus, offers and cooking demonstrations through Saturday. See their site for hours, prices and participating restaurants.

2. Get spooked in the suburbs

Halloween is almost here and it’s time for serious scream-seekers to get into the spirit. Spend your Monday night in a cemetery filled with werewolves or in a post-apocalyptic, zombie-infested urban nightmare at 13th Floor Haunted House. That is, if you can handle it. (13th Floor Haunted House, 1940 George St, 7pm. $25–$35)

3. Discover something special

There are still a few days left to catch some special screenings at the Chicago International Film Festival. Today you can see the already-acclaimed French coming-of-age drama, A Childhood (3:30pm), or catch the Chicago documentary, For Grace (5:30pm), which follows chef Curtis Duffy's journey and sacrifices to see through his goal of opening one of the world’s best restaurants. (AMC River East 21, 322 E Illinois St, various showtimes, passes and packages $14–$250)
