1. View beautiful Iranian movie posters

“Salaam Cinema! 50 Years of Iranian Movie Posters” is totally worth the trip up to Evanston. Even if you’re unfamiliar with Iranian cinema, this collection is stunning in and of itself. (Mary & Leigh Block Museum of Art, 40 Arts Circle Dr in Evanston, 10am–5pm. Free)

2. See a soul-bearing musical performance

Glen Hansard, best known as the Irish songwriter from Once, is playing at the Vic tonight. Hansard’s songs are like reading a page out of his diary. (Vic Theatre, 3145 N Sheffield Ave, 7:30pm. $40)

3. Admire ancient Chinese artifacts

The Field Museum’s “China’s First Emperor and his Terracotta Warriors” captures the drama and grandiose of China circa 200 BC. Don’t worry, it’s nothing like sitting through world history class. (The Field Museum, 1400 S Lake Shore Drive, 9am. Included in regular museum admission)
