The three best things to do today in Chicago

1. Sip cocktails with the fish

Have a drink and listen to jazz on the lakefront at the Shedd Aquarium’s Jazzin’ at the Shedd summer series. Pop inside to take a look at the Wild Reef while you’re there. (Shedd Aquarium, 1200 S Lakeshore Dr, 5pm. $20, $18 in advance)

2. Learn from Chicago authors

Check out the Chicago History Museum’s first crowd-sourced exhibition, Chicago Authored. The multimedia-based experience pays tribute to the city’s very own writers, past and present. (Chicago History Museum, 1601 N Clark St, 9:30am–4:30pm. $12–$14)

3. Watch an improvised puppet show

Felt is a staple at iO for a reason: It’s deeply hilarious, totally unpredictable and, well, stars puppets. This isn’t exactly Sesame Street, so don't bring the kids. (iO Chicago, 1501 N Kingsbury St, 8:30pm. $5)
