1. Go to the ultimate food festival

Taste of Chicago kicks off today with the largest selection of Chicago’s best food. Devour tacos, churros, burgers, Eli’s Cheesecake and pizza until you can't possibly eat anymore. But then you will. (Taste of Chicago, 337 E Randolph St, 11am. Free admission)

2. Visit Bikini Bottom

In The SpongeBob Musical, SpongeBob, Sandy and Patrick Star race to save their home from a volcano that’s about to erupt. You won’t want to miss the beautiful, colorful set design and the show’s unusual score created by more than a dozen of your favorite musical acts. (Oriental Theatre, 24 W Randolph St, 2 and 7:30pm. $35–$97)

3. See bird art

The art created by Tony Fitzpatrick is focused on his favorite source of inspiration: birds. The “The Secret Birds” exhibit is a mash-up of paintings, drawings and collages that are perfect to wander through on a hot summer day. (DePaul Art Museum, 935 W Fullerton Ave, 11am. Free)
