1. Laugh at the big shots

Tracy Morgan kicks off the ridiculously named Third Annual 26th Annual Comedy Festival, which is organized by The Onion and The A.V. Club. As the festival continues, attendees will get a chance to see Sarah Silverman, Michael Che and the Clickhole writers. (Civic Opera House, 20 N Upper Wacker Dr, 8pm. $52.50)

2. Watch an indie film

The weeklong Chicago Underground Film Festival at the Logan Theatre celebrates its opening night with a screening of Tony Conrad: Completely In The Present. Visitors can head to the after party at the Elastic Arts Center for more performances and entertainment. (Logan Theatre, 2646 N Milwaukee Ave, 8pm. $20 for opening night)

3. Be free as a bird

Artist Tony Fitzpatrick has a passion for the study of birds and has turned this obsession into beautiful art. His exhibition, The Secret Birds, showcases his drawings, paintings and collages of the flying creatures that inspire him. (DePaul Art Museum, 935 W Fullerton Ave, 11am–7pm. Free)
